A menu is a list that has been thoughtfully designed to make you aware of the range of choices available to you and to make your experience more enjoyable.
A menu sets a tone for your experience. It breaks the restaurant’s capabilities down into a set of promises and prices. This both makes it easier for the restaurant to prepare in advance and easier for you to make selections that work well for you.
Without a menu, both parties would have unclear expectations. And yet, outside the restaurant business, the menu is often missing.
Exercise.
Here’s your exercise for this week: Design a menu for your customers, to clarify the range of choices available to them and to make their experience more enjoyable. Think it through from the customer’s perspective. For each item on the menu: What is your promise? What is the price? What performance will you deliver?
