The Monday memo is food for thought to fuel your week.
Hi everyone,
This week’s memo is about something that has been helpful to me in my creative practice — working in blocks. This is especially helpful when you have a big project.
Big things are made up of smaller things. A book is made of chapters. Chapters are made of paragraphs. And paragraphs are made of sentences. You get the idea.
This applies to lots of things in life, not just books or other creative projects. When you think about something as a whole, it can be overwhelming. Where do you even begin? It helps to break big things down into smaller, more manageable pieces. Then you can focus on completing one block at a time.
Exercise.
This week, think about a big goal or project you are working towards, and try breaking it down into smaller "blocks."
What are the individual steps involved?
What resources or support will you need for each block?
What would “done” look like for each step?
Sometimes just getting started is the hardest part. By focusing on one block at a time, you can make steady progress toward your larger goals without getting bogged down by the enormity of the task ahead. See what happens.
