The Monday memo is food for thought to fuel your week.
Hi everyone,
This is the last Monday memo for 2024. In a couple of days we will begin a new year. Every year we cross this threshold, and it’s a good time to reflect on what you accomplished last year, and what you want to do next year.
I’ve never been good at New Year’s resolutions. I mean, I can make them just fine, but keeping them? Not so much. And the keeping is really the most important part of the resolution.
This year I’m going to take a cue from my friend Gary Hirsch and give myself a personal mantra for 2025. I invite you to join me.
Resolutions are about things you want to do. A personal mantra is more about who you want to become. The word mantra comes from Sanskrit, literally “a thought behind speech or action.” It’s the little choices and decisions you make every day that determine how you grow and who you become. And a personal mantra can guide you towards making better choices and becoming the person you want to be.
Exercise.
Consider who you want to become in the coming year. How you want to show up. A direction in which you want to grow. A guiding principle, a thought to inform your speech and action.
The last couple of years Gary has offered to illustrate people’s personal mantras. Have a look at some of them here.
My personal mantra for 2025 is “Default to grace.” What’s yours?
